Frequently asked Questions about Lawn Care
Is my lawn getting enough water?
This is a common question and there are a lot of variables to consider when deciding how often you need to water to maintain a healthy lawn.
Factors to consider;
- What weather we have been having, hot, raining, windy or cold cloudy days.
- Type of watering system.
- Soil type – sandy or clay
- Type of turf used
- Position of lawn, shady or full sunlight
- Health of the lawn
The best way to water your instant turf is to have an automatic pop up sprinkler system put in, or an under lawn watering system. You can get this installed before you lay the instant turf. The advantage of installing either system is that you can have it set to whatever time you want to water your lawn and it will water evenly and consistently without you having to worry about it. One less thing to do in our busy lifestyles.
How often do I have to water my new lawn?

When your instant turf is newly laid you will need to water daily while the roots are getting set into the ground and start growing, usually three to four weeks. If the days are hot you may need to water twice daily. In the cooler months, and if there has been rain you will be able to water less.
Once your lawn becomes established you won’t have to water as often. Over the winter months you may not need to water it as the days are cooler and we usually get more rain. Over the hotter months you will need to be watering your lawn more often, but it is better to water longer and give it a deep soaking. During summer you are best to set your automatic sprinkler system to water either early in the morning or late in the evening, and you can set how often you want to water, for example every second day.

Signs your lawn needs watering
- If it is wilting or loosing its bright green colour
- When walking across the lawn it doesn’t bounce back straight away
- If it becomes dry and crunchy, not soft when you walk on it, especially in hotter months
Due to our warm climate when choosing instant turf to lay, consider that and choose a lawn that is drought tolerant and will require less water to survive, especially if you have water restrictions in your area.
